Merriam-Webster defines security as freedom from danger or freedom from fear or anxiety. These principles apply in business, whether discussing cyber sec, info sec or any other form of technological security, as well as forms of physical security for buildings, data centers and tangible property.
Security practices outside of cyber sec include protecting data, utilization of VPN’s (or other safeguards) for remote work, compliance, cloud, multifactor authentication and more. Businesses should have these practices in place to assist with attack prevention, but they should also have programs for incident response to mitigate additional risk when there is a breach.
