The key to mitigating risk with ransomware is having a plan in place when an attack occurs, such as isolating the machine it is first found on so that the malicious software cannot infiltrate the network.
The most common vector of a ransomware attack, much like malware, is phishing schemes. These schemes are socially engineered to look legitimate and can easily fool the untrained eye. Education is a key piece of preventing these attacks.
