Information Security

Information is the foundation of today’s commerce. It’s a hot commodity sought after by businesses and hackers alike. Information security, often referred to as infosec, is the practice of keeping data secure from those who do not have access. Cisco says that infosec “refers to the processes and tools designed and deployed to protect sensitive business information from modification, disruption, destruction, and inspection.”  This applies when it’s being stored as well as when it’s being transmitted from one place to another.

Infosec can also be referred to as data security. Given the sheer number of attacks today, the importance of information security has become increasingly important.
