Automation

Automation is defined as the creation of technology that controls and monitors the production and delivery of various goods and services. This technology is designed to take over menial tasks that used to be completed by humans, allowing people to focus on other aspects of their job. Automation is used in manufacturing, transport, utilities, defense, facilities, operations and information technology. It is used to improve productivity, which saves time and cuts costs.

For the purposes of this website, automation refers to aspects of information technology. IT applications include automated testing of products, reporting, and certain aspects of security which can be designed to detect and react (or not) based on certain criteria. It should also be noted that there are many tasks that cannot, or should not, be automated in the IT sector.
